Swampland Conjectures for strings and membranes

چکیده

A bstract Swampland criteria like the Weak Gravity Conjecture should not only apply to particles, but also other lower-codimension charged objects in 4d EFTs strings and membranes. However, description of latter is general subtle due their large backreaction effects. In context $$ \mathcal{N} N = 1 EFTs, we consider \frac{1}{2} 1 2 BPS membranes which are fundamental, sense that they cannot be resolved within EFT regime. We argue that, if interpreted from viewpoint, these translates into a classical RG flow couplings. Constraints on UV charges tensions get then translated constraints axionic kinetic terms scalar potential EFT. This uncovers new relations among Conjectures, become interconnected by physical properties low-codimension objects. particular, using string flows describe infinite field distance limits, show WGC for implies Distance Conjecture. Similarly, WGC-saturating generate satisfying de Sitter

Membranes, Strings and Integrability

In the first half of this note, after briefly motivating and reviewing membrane field theories, we consider their BPS funnel solutions. We discuss some aspects of embedding M-theory fuzzy funnels in these theories. In the second half, we focus on ABJM theory and explain a test of AdS4/CFT3 based on integrability. We discuss a numerical mismatch at one loop in worldsheet perturbation theory and ...

Generalized Raychaudhuri Equations for Strings and Membranes

A recent generalisation of the Raychaudhuri equations for timelike geodesic congruences to families of D dimensional extremal, timelike, Nambu–Goto surfaces embedded in an N dimensional Lorentzian background is reviewed. Specialising to D = 2 (i.e the case of string worldsheets) we reduce the equation for the generalised expansion θa, (a = σ, τ) to a second order, linear, hyperbolic partial dif...

Poisson Brackets, Strings and Membranes

We construct Poisson brackets at boundaries of open strings and membranes with constant background fields which are compatible with their boundary conditions. The boundary conditions are treated as primary constraints which give infinitely many secondary constraints. We show explicitly that we need only two (the primary one and one of the secondary ones) constraints to determine Poisson bracket...

From Strings to Membranes

We examine the extent to which the action for the membrane of M-theory (the elevendimensional construct which underlies and unifies all of the known string theories) simplifies in the so-called Open Membrane (OM) limit, a limit which lies at the root of the various manifestations of noncommutativity in the string context. In order for the discussion to be relatively self-contained, we start out...

Strings, Fractal Membranes and Noncommutative Spacetimes Strings, Fractal Membranes and Noncommutative Spacetimes

In this book, the author proposes a new approach to understand and possibly solve the Riemann Hypothesis. His reformulation builds upon earlier (joint) work on complex fractal dimensions and the vibrations of fractal strings, combined with string theory and noncommutative geometry. Accordingly, it relies on the new notion of a fractal membrane or quantized fractal string, along with the modular...
